Diversity at 4flow
4flow is diverse. We value and support our team members’ individuality, and we welcome applications from people with all kinds of backgrounds. Ensuring equal opportunities is a given for us. To promote diversity at 4flow, we created a diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) council that defines our goals in this area.
For us, diversity also means increasing the number of women in leadership. We want to make 4flow even more diverse and, among other measures, support women through targeted initiatives. An employee resource group (ERG) for women at 4flow ensures representation and support of our female team members.
Our vision for diversity at 4flow
We at 4flow firmly believe that all our thoughts and actions are enriched by diversity and that the principle of equity and inclusion is rooted deeply into our company culture. All team members are valued, respected and given the opportunity to grow regardless of their background, identity or perspectives.
“Diversity makes us stronger. It’s a key success factor for us to support women and increase the number of women in leadership positions at 4flow.”

“I wanted to be there for my family and still go back to my career full-time.”
What do you appreciate about 4flow as an employer?
I really value the diverse opportunities for personal development at 4flow. I’ve always been supported on an individual level and encouraged in my growth. That’s something that sets 4flow apart from other employers. And I appreciate that 4flow makes it possible for me to balance both my family life and my career.
In terms of balancing family and career, what’s important for you?
For me, it’s mostly about flexibility. After my parental leave, I thought about what I wanted to do next. I wanted to be there for my family and still go back to my career full-time. At the moment, I work from home most of the time, which allows me to concentrate on my job and still have the flexibility to spend time with my daughter.

“It’s important to support each other because a reliable network can be a big help.”
What does your day-to-day work look like?
In consulting projects, my data science team and I are responsible for everything that’s data-driven and involves large or complex data sets. For instance, that could mean we develop algorithms, or we use machine learning to predict certain results. The biggest challenge is bridging the gap between mathematical theory and real-world business practices. For that, you have to understand the supply chain processes behind the data. Ultimately, our aim is to develop individual solutions for our customers to meet their specific business needs.
Do you have any tips for other young women who want to pursue a technical career like yours?
I’ve found it’s important not to change who you are to meet other people’s expectations. Even if you’re frequently outnumbered as a woman, don’t let that intimidate you. In fact, it can be really helpful if someone can contribute a fresh perspective. As a student, I didn’t have any female professors – I would have appreciated more female role models. But I realized I’d just have to prove to myself that I could succeed. It’s also important to support each other because a reliable network can be a big help. Now I have several younger female colleagues, and I’m really happy that they turn to me for advice.
Henriette, Supply Chain Engineer, 4flow management
“Working in my team, I quickly realized my gender doesn’t make a difference.”
You’re a mathematician by training – how did you discover your interest in supply chain management?
Before I started my career, I had no contact with supply chain, but I remember an example from a math lecture that focused on network optimization for public transportation in Berlin, Germany. Even back then, I found it really interesting. I like that supply chain always has these smaller tasks you need to solve, and they affect other processes. That way of thinking made a lot of sense to me as a mathematician.
What tips would you give other young women planning a career in supply chain management?
My most important tip is just trust you can do something, voice your ideas and ask questions. We women are just as smart as men, we’re just more reserved sometimes. Working in my team, I quickly realized my gender doesn’t make a difference. That’s why it’s important to demonstrate your own potential. I’d also advise younger colleagues to build up a network. You don’t have to know everything, you just have to know who at the company knows what. So make those connections as soon as possible, and don’t be afraid to ask for advice.

“Promoting diversity is very important at 4flow, and I’m excited to support our team in that process.”
What are some of your favorite things about 4flow?
I appreciate the flexibility at 4flow. I’m free to decide where and when I work. The culture at 4flow is shaped by all the diverse team members and their many facets. Women often decide against starting a career in consulting because they don't think they’re suited to the tasks or daily work life associated with it. I want to encourage women that with the right team, like the one we have at 4flow, you don’t need to have these doubts. Promoting diversity is very important at 4flow, and I’m excited to support our team in that process.
How would you describe the team spirit at 4flow?
Everyone at 4flow is very hard working, but open at the same time. Everyone takes time for each other, and the team really works together. People are very approachable, no matter their position, and this unique team spirit sets us apart. I’m looking forward to taking on the role of project lead and supporting my colleagues in their development. Being responsible for a team and sharing my experience will be fun.
