4flow research is an associated partner in the project TUrLo (Transfer Roadmap for Urban Logistics). Along with research partners Bundesverband der Kurier- Express- Paketdienste (German National Association for Courrier, Express and Parcel Delivery Services), the University of Applied Sciences in Berlin and more, 4flow will take the next step in a series of projects researching ways to improve the environmental sustainability of goods flow in urban logistics systems.
The research project TUrLo will develop a roadmap to help businesses switch to more environmentally sustainable delivery processes, while minimizing financial and operational risks. The focus of the project is evaluating last mile shipment consolidation in real life together with participating businesses. Besides packages, the project aims to consolidate paletized general cargo and execute delivery with electric trucks.
TUrLo is the continuation of a series of related projects. Previously, 4flow research and partners have determined the conditions to ensure sustainable goods delivery systems are economically feasible in the project WAS-PAST (Warenverkehr in Städten – Paket und Stückgut, or Goods flow in cities – packages and partial loads). Prior to that, the Kiezbote project tested the feasibility of a sustainable urban delivery concept, which involved grouping packages in a micro-hub and delivering them via cargo bike within time slots selected by the recipients.
